Cool Painting for August

Ice cubes make drinks cool, but did you know you can paint with them?

Here's what you need:
3 measuring cups
blue, red, and yellow tempera paint
white drawing paper
craft sticks
plastic ice cube tray or a muffin tin
paper towels for drips

Mix each of the paints with water. Stir until you have a thin mixture. Pour into the plastic ice cube tray and freeze until partially frozen. (You can get all three colors in one tray.)

Poke a craft stick into each partially-frozen cube, then continue freezing until solid. Select one of each color. Keep the others frozen.

Hold the stick of your unusual paintbrush and begin painting on white drawing paper. Don’t let the paper get too wet. When one cube  starts melting, re-freeze and use another.

Here’s a short cut

Freeze water in the ice cube tray.  With a spoon, drop small amounts of paint on your paper. Holding your ice cube paintbrush, rub over the paint. Use a different ice cube for each color.

Let your paintings dry completely.
